Entertaiment is a voluminous subject and can be a challenge to cover. The word itself has evolved to mean many things: it can be a private entertainment chosen from the enormous array of pre-recorded products; a banquet adapted for two; a party for any size group; a performance adapted for a global audience; and much more. Ultimately, however, all entertainment is intended to amuse. (The word derives from the Medieval Latin intertenere, combining the prefix inter meaning “inside” with the suffix tenere meaning to hold or stretch out.)
